Boroondara Symphonic Band is deeply saddened by the loss of our Music Director Colin Harris. Colin’s contribution to community music and his dedication to the development of a quality band were outstanding. Colin was a wonderfully caring and encouraging teacher, mentor and friend.

Colin Harris was appointed Music Director of Boroondara Symphonic Band at the commencement of 2001. Colin had a long association with community bands in Melbourne, having previously conducted the Balwyn Youth Concert Band, Kew Youth Band and the Eltham Concert Band.

As a performer he was a playing member of various ensembles, including the Beaufort Municipal Band, Ballarat City Brass Band, Kew Band and the Grainger Wind Symphony.

Colin was a classroom music teacher at Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School for many years and in 2005 he was the recipient of an “Award of Excellence” from the Australian Band and Orchestra Directors’ Association (ABODA) in recognition of his conducting achievements. In addition, Colin was Chief Instructor at the annual Wimmera Bands Group Music School.

Boroondara Symphonic Band continues to provide quality programs to our audiences.
